We're approaching a year now through these abnormal circumstances. When people ask me how I'm doing I've started saying "I'm Covid-good". It means to me, that yes while my routine has changed, my short term goals have been thwarted, and I'm bored out of my mind, all is well. Holiday season is here again and in the spirit of being "Covid-well" we must consider that some are not well during this time. People are facing physical, emotional, and mental stresses right now worse than our own. To strengthen communities for what has been an extended fall from normalcy, we can give back.
It's difficult to imagine volunteering in person right now. However, organizations are evolving to support remoteness. Some options are volunteering one's time to help manage the finances of your local food bank organization or offering pro-bono professional consulting. Young professionals can use this time to become a BIG-sibling in providing a mentorship relationship to inspire at-risk youth.
